Richard Mille’s journey began at French watchmaker Finhor in 1974, before taking a more senior position at Matra in 1981. A few years later, he joined jewellery brand Mauboussin, heading up their watch division.

Foundations set, the ambitious Richard Mille took a leap into the unknown and founded his own company in 1999—but it would take another two years before the debut of the brand’s first watch, the RM001.

An initial series of 17 watches the RM 001 Tourbillon, was released in 2001. It caused shockwaves through the industry due to its extraordinary torque-screwed tonneau case and equally extraordinary price tag.

Described as “a racing machine on the wrist”, this audacity in design coupled with high quality execution saw the RM001 propel Richard Mille to pinnacle of the luxury watch market, where it remains to this day.
